Chair meant for dental patients lying unused in Malda hospital

Statesman News Service
MALDA, July 9: In 1998-99, the Malda district hospital had received a sophisticated chair for the treatment of dental patients, worth more than Rs 1 lakh from SHDP-II (a state health development project). But the chair is still lying in the hospital storeroom. Interestingly, it was learnt that, the authorities had shown its repair costs regularly. The chief medical officer, health, Dr Gopal Sarkar said that, he did not have any information about the matter and that, he would check its accounts after Monday. The CMOHs of six districts have been asked to attend a review meeting in Siliguri on Monday, where the higher authorities would review the situation. Dr Sarkar also said that, the hospital superintendent had thrice written letters, requesting for its installation. But no initiative has been taken. “Hospital authorities needed to have the necessary infrastructures for setting up the chair. But the demand was yet to be fulfilled,” the CMOH said. The CMOH also said that, some equipments for the cardio-thoracic unit have also been supplied to the hospital under the SHDP-II project. But they are all lying idle. “The unused equipments have been sent to RG Kar Hospital on June 2 for utilisation,” Dr Sarkar said.
