Child labourers


MALDA, Feb. 15: The 17 child labourers, rescued by Bihar police from Thakurganj in Bihar's Kishanganj district yesterday, were handed over to their family members tonight. All the rescued child labourers are the residents of Malda's Kaliachak police station area.It may be recalled that the Bihar police rescued 17 minor boys from the clutches of two agents ~ Barkat Ali and Mahatab Ali ~ while they were being taken to Nepal yesterday.Officials said that the Kishanganj police have initiated a case against the two accused persons under the immoral trafficking act. The family members of the 17 boys were summonsed by the Kalichack police tonight for interrogation. After a thorough interrogation, the family members revealed that they had agreed to hand over the boys to the agents for job in brick kilns in Nepal. For this, the parents of the boys received Rs 500 in advance from the agents. n SNS
