BJP panchayat man a Bangladeshi : Cong

MALDA, Jan. 19. — Setting aside the issue of mahajot temporarily, the Malda Congress leaders submitted a complaint against Mr Ananda Sarkar, the BJP gram panchayat pradhan, to the Malda administration on Thursday. They alleged that Mr Sarkar is a Bangladeshi national who enjoys dual citizenship and voting rights in India as well as in Bangladesh. Congress leaders also claimed that Mr Sarkar became chief of the Chaknagar gram panchayat in Gazole with the support of the CPI-M members. According to documents collected by the Congress leaders, both Mr Ananda Sarkar and his wife are Indian citizens and possess electoral photo identity cards (No. WB-06-040-174401 and serial number 994) in the Gazole assembly segment. The leaders have also discovered a certificate of residence given to Mr Ananda Sarkar by the Anaitara Union Parishad that is located in the Mirzapur sub-division of the Tangail district of Bangladesh. Mr Prasanta Roy, a PCC member and a Malda lawyer, said that Mr Sarkar is also a member of a union board in Bangladesh.The Malda SDO, Mr Prasanna Kumar Mondal, stated that the BDO of Gazole has been told to investigate the complaint filed by the Malda Congress leaders. He also said: “I will also talk to the district magistrate and it is he who will finally decide how to confirm the report that Mr Ananda Sarkar is allegedly also a Bangladeshi national.” The Election Commission observer for Malda, Mr D Singh, had tried hard to lodge a complaint against Bangladeshi voters in the district . #
