Students shine at state sports meet

MALDA (India) Jan. 8.
– Six students from Malda have bagged nine awards at the state level school sports meet held at Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake last week. Trained by Mr. Pulak Jha of Nagharia School the boys and girls excelled in various events. Mr. Jha had trained many students earlier also. This time, three out of six students, secured first position in the state level meet. Four, which are from the Nagharia Higher Secondary School in the English Bazaar block.
Students of Mothabari and Kalindri higher secondary schools also took part in the state sports meet. Below 14 years age group, Sipu Mandal, stood first in 600-metre race and secured second prize in high jump event. Sintu Ghosh, below 17-years age groups, was declared first in Javelin throw and third in 800-metre race. Mini Khatun, under 17 group, stood second in discus throwing while Golam Kibria, under the 19 year-old, was first in shot-put and second in discus throwing events. Utpal Mandal and Ratan Mandal got second and third position in Javelin throw respectively. All of them belong to poor family in rural Bengal. #
