MALDA, May 16: A tribal widow, Purgi Mardi (55), was beaten to death by her family members after being labelled a “witch” today at the Bujuvita village in the Gazole police station area here, police said.Police said that two more persons were injured in the the attack and have been admitted to hospital for treatment. All her family members have been arrested. Malda SP, Mr Dilip Kumar Mondal, said: “Purgi’s brother-in-law, Mohan Soren, who has been ill for a long time, told his family members that Purgi was a “witch” and responsible for his deteriorating health.His family members hatched a plan to beat Purgi to death.”
