Villageers lynch killer after woman's body found

MALDA, May 6: Villagers today lynched one Sukesh Madhu (35) in Dhantala village under English Baazar police station for killing a 55-year-old woman.The woman was killed at Dhantala village last night and her body was found by the villagers early in the day today.According to police, Jhantu Gharami (55) was collecting mangoes from an orchard last night when Sukesh Madhu attacked her with a sharp weapon and killed her on the spot. “Sukesh had a criminal background and he was driven out of the village. He attacked the woman to in vengeance as she disclosed information about him to other villagers,” Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhyay, SP, Malda said. “He used to come to his village secretly. The woman came to know of his whereabouts and told the villagers about him,” he added. The villagers suspected Sukesh after they discovered the woman’s body and got hold of him. While confronting him they understood that he committed the crime and started beating him, which eventually led to his death.“We have registered the woman’s death as a murder case and have registered the another incident as lynching,” Mr Bandopadhyay said.Villagers said: “Sukesh was associated with several anti- social activities. A meeting was organised where he was held guilty of theft, snatching and misbehaving with women. A month ago he was driven out of the village because of his misdeeds.”
