MALDA, 26 FEB: The Chanchal SDO Mr Subho Mukherjee has lodged an FIR with the police against Mr Ajit Kumar Das; pradhan of the Congress led Chanchal Gram Panchayat on charges of financial irregularities.
According to the SDO, Mr Das has misappropriated funds allotted from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). The administration filed the FIR after receiving two complaints against him and having those complaints looked into by technical and senior administrative officials.
It is learnt that the two complainants are Mr Pralay Mukherjee, secretary of the Gram Unnayan Sansad and Mr Gobardhan Singh, Opposition leader of the board. Mr Mukherjee , who is also a Congress leader said: “ Money was distributed for non existent NREGA works among non-registered people , which is a gross violence”.
The Opposition leader of the Congress led board Mr Gobardhan Singh too lodged similarly complaint against the pradhan.
According to Mr Singh, although the pradhan had implemented one NREGS project, he had distributed about Rs. 2.38 lakh for the non existent work.
An inquiry revealed that although no work was executed, wages were distributed among jewelry shop owners, house wives and others who are not registered labourers.
Today local Congress leaders urged the SDO to issue a show cause notice to the pradhan and withdraw the FIR against him claiming the works in question had been executed.
