Cong recaptures Kazigram GP

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Aug 22: The Congress has recaptured the Kazigram gram panchayat in English Bazaar. The block development officer yesterday declared the results of the vote of confidence held in the last week of June, following the order of the Calcutta High Court. It may be recalled that the court had ordered the election but forbidden publication of results until further orders. The Congress pradhan, Mr Goutam Choudhury, was removed by the CPI-M members with the help of BJP and Trinamul members in February 2006. Mr Choudhury, the Congress member, had formed the board following a theory of “grand alliance” with the help of six members from Congress, four from BJP members and three from Trinamul. Together, they were a group of 14. There were also six members from the CPI-M, one from CPI and one independent. With the help of two BJP and two Trinamul members, the CPI-M had declared a no confidence motion against the pradhan and twice issued notices in December 2005 and January 2006.Finally Mr Choudhury had managed 11 votes against his opponent candidate Mr Bijoy Rajak out of 20 members who cast their votes. The Congress has thus recaptured the gram panchayat.
