Militants target Malda

MALDA, Aug 9: After receiving a threat letter from lower Assam, the Malda district administration has beefed up security in and around the Malda railway station. According to the Intelligence reports, militants have targeted to blow up the Malda town railway station.The Malda Railway Protection Force, it may be recalled, received two similar threat letters recently. Since Independence Day is round the corner, the district administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure security at the Malda station. The Malda superintendent of police, Mr DK Mondal, said he came to know about the threat letter from the Malda railway divisional security commissioner on Tuesday.“In the fresh threat letter, it has been written that the KLO and the Ulfa militants planning to carry out subversive activities in the region on the I-Day,” the SP, said. He added that the matter has been brought to the notice of the district Intelligence officials. According to the Intelligence officials, the KLO and Ulfa militants held a secret meeting in lower Assam recently and planned to disturb I-Day celebrations in north Bengal.
