MALDA, Aug 25: Even pregnant women cannot escape the wrath of mobs in some places of the state, it appears. Allegedly beaten by some traders, a pregnant woman had to be hospitalized in Malda today. The victim had allegedly stolen Rs 4 from a shop at Nasirtola village under Kaliachak police station. The traders also beat the victim’s husband Bakhter Sheikh. Both were admitted to Malda hospital with head injuries. An altercation broke out among the traders and the woman when it was detected that her six-year-old son had stolen Rs 4 from a small shop in the village. “The situation worsened when the male members of the family interfered following which, the traders beat both the husband and the wife,” Malda SP Mr DK Mondal, said.
