CPM worker killed in Malda


MALDA, March 26. — Alem Sheikh 40, a CPI-M worker was killed in a political clash between the Congress and the CPI-M workers at Kasimpara village under Baishnabnagar police station, Malda SP said today. Trouble broke out last night when a group of Congress workers under the leadership of Md Panchu Sheikh attacked the house of another CPI-M worker Md Jalal Sheikh hurling bombs and damaging some houses, police said. “Alem died on the spot when a bomb went off before him. He was watching the situation during attack,” a senior police officer said. “Three persons were arrested, and the raid is being continued. There is no report of other injured persons,” Mr. D K Mondal, the Malda SP, said. “There was an internal fictions between the two groups of villagers politically,” the Malda S P said. CPIM party leaders said that this was first time the local people had organized a rally for the CPIM at the village in Bedrabad gram panchayat area on 24 March in favour of the CPIM’s contesting candidate, Mr Biswanath Ghosh, who is contesting against Mr. AH Khan Choudhury, brother of Mr. A B A Ghani Khan Choudhury, the Malda M P. The people of the entire village were under the control of the Congress leaders, particularly under the leadership of Md. Panchu Sheikh, a local panchayat member of Congress and the leader of a group of local porters. Md. Jalal took initiative to organize a meeting for the CPIM candidate and delivered a speech against the Congress on 24 March. — SNS
