Trinamul Congress district chief removed

Statesman News Service
MALDA, March 17. — Mr Krishnendu Chowdhury has been removed from his post as district president of Malda Trinamul Congress , due to his anti-party activities and statement to the Press against the state leadership, another leader of Malda Trinamul Congress, Mr Dulal Sarkar alias Babla, said here today. “The state leadership has removed Mr Chowdhury and directed me to act as district president till end of the election,” Mr Dulal Sarkar said. It may be recalled that Mr Chowdhury had protested against the decision of the state leadership for nominating three candidates including himself in Malda without consulting the district president. Today Mr Chowdhury met Mr Ghani Khan Choudhury , the Malda congress MP , and expressed his desire to join congress with other leaders and called an emergent meeting with Trinamul members on Sunday. “Though the state leadership selected him as the Trinamul candidate for English Bazaar in Malda, another candidate has been selected to contest in Assembly polls in English Bazaar instead of Mr. Krishnendu Chowdhury,” Mr Sarkar said.Congress stalwart and Malda MP Mr A BA Ghani Khan Choudhury, will announce the names of Congress candidates in the district soon. He will also decide the “fate” of the district Trinamul Congress president, Krishnendu Chowdhury and district leaders of a “breakaway group” of the Mamata Banerjee camp said here today.Mr Chowdhury, who met Mr Khan Choudhury this morning and bargained for a Congress ticket to contest the Assembly election from the English Bazaar constituency, ignored Miss Banerjee’s ticket as the Trinamul candidate for the same seat. “It was a courtesy visit. Nothing official. Barkat da will tell you about me soon. Then I will tell you everything,” he said and expressed his desire to join the Congress officially at Mr Khan Choudhury’s residence, in his presence. “Efforts to dislodge the CPI-M from the English Bazaar civic board may not materialise if the district Trinamul Congress president joins Mr Khan Choudhury’s camp. Many elected members of Trinamul Congress don’t want to join Mr Chowdhury. This will prevent unity among Opposition councillors of English Bazaar Municipality,” they said.
