English Bazaar chairman working despite Opp protest

MALDA, March 23. — The CPI-M backed Independent chairman of English Bazaar municipality, Mr Nihar Ranjan Ghosh, has still been carrying out his work from the veranda of his office owing to the continuous agitation launched by the Opposition. The Opposition leaders today said that they would seek the interference of the district magistrate for the removal of the present chairman following the direction of the High Court on the no-confidence motion against the chairman. “We are waiting for the order copy of the Division Bench in order to take up the necessary course of action,” said a Trinamul councillor, Mr Dulal Sarkar. On the other hand, the chairman of the civic board, Mr Nihar Ranjan Ghosh, said that they have got a stay-order to run the board till 22 April. And that a no-confidence motion can’t be called against him, as it would not be executed till 22 April.It may be recalled that before the election, in order to maintain power in the Malda zilla parishad and the English Bazaar municipality, both the CPI-M and the Opposition groups comprising the Congress, the BJP and the Trinamul Congress are fighting in the court of law. The Congress led coalition with the support of the BJP and the Trinamul Congress is ruling in Malda Zilla Parishad.
