MALDA, Oct. 13: The Malda district administration has decided to take action against a section of promoters if they are found guilty of grabbing six acres of government land, as alleged by the residents of Khidirpur. The locals had recently complained to the district administration that the promoters had grabbed the government land at Gobrahaat in Malda’s Harishchandrapur block II area. The Malda SP, Mr DK Mondal, said that the Chanchal SDPO had visited Gobrahaat yesterday to verify the allegation. “The SDPO would send me a detailed report soon,” the SP, said. He added that the SDPO had instructed the promoters to immediately stop illegal construction at Gobrahaat. The locals, including a member of the Daulatpur gram panchayat area, had submitted a written complaint to the Malda SP, alleging that a group of three promoters had grabbed the land that the state government had acquired for the construction of an embankment as a part of flood control measures. The copy of the letter was also sent to officials of the Writers’ Building. “The irrigation department officials had lodged a complaint with the Harishchandrapur police station but no action was taken,” Mr TN Mishra, a local, said.
