MALDA, Feb. 11: With a view to aware of central government’s plans and programmes “Bharat Nirman Nabodaya Utsav” will be organised at Rukundipur in Ratua, Malda , from 20 to 24 February. Mr. Santanu Palodhi, deputy director general, Press Information Bureau, informed the local reporters here yesterday.The Malda has been selected for implementing national rural employment scheme, he says. And this festival would focus about the rights of people to avail the NREGS for their livelihood. Authorities would also focus government’s plans for the development of minority groups. Importance to form self-help groups, development of agriculture and bankers’ role, and literacy would be focused in this five day fair. SNS

MALDA, Feb. 11: The central government has sanctioned Rs 15 crore for Malda considering it as backward district recently. Besides Malda, Murshidabad and Midnapore East have got the same fund. On Friday the district magistrate convened a meeting with the Sabhadhipati and other district officials to allocate the funds among 15 blocks and two municipalities. The government has set 31 March 2007 deadline to utilise the funds. This project would be continued for five years. Officials said this fund would be spent for the development of drinking water , kitchen for primary schools and ICDS centres , toilets. For agricultural development 10 selected self-help groups will get mini pump and tractor. SNS
