Officials to meet AIDS victims

MALDA, Feb. 19: Officials of Malda’s social welfare department would visit Sahapur Colony, on the bank of the Mahananda river in Old Malda, to meet the members of a family ostracised for having contacted the deadly AIDS disease, Mr P Singha Roy, the district project officer, social welfare, said. It may be recalled that the secretary of Malda Ramkrishna Mission, Divyananda Maharaj, recently drew the attention of the officials concerned regarding the plight of the beleaguered family members who contacted the AIDS disease. He alleged that the Malda district hospital authorities had refused to admit the AIDS-affected persons. Divyananda also alleged that a member of the family, who used to work as domestic help, was forced to leave the job by her employer here. “The district administration should open a special cell for the AIDS victims at Malda district hospital,” Divyananda suggested.
