MALDA, Feb. 2: The newborn baby, "wrongly" pronounced dead yesterday, breathed his last today.It may be recalled that angry relatives of the newborn baby had ransacked the maternity ward of the Malda district hospital yesterday after the child, taken for dead, was found alive.The ill-fated baby, however, died around 10.40 am today.Meanwhile, the chief medical officer of health, Malda, Dr Radha Raman Banik, has ordered a probe into the incident. "Yesterday, the staff of the hospital wrongly pronounced the child dead. They should have waited for at least four hours before arriving at a conclusion. A detailed report regarding the incident has been sent to the director of health services and other officials," the CMOH, said. He informed that that a sweeper of the maternity ward has been suspended following the incident. "If found guilty, action would also be taken against the doctors and the nurses concerned," Dr Banik, said. SNS
