Doctor's stand

MALDA, Feb. 9: The doctors’ reply to showcause notice issued by the Malda CMOH against the death of a newborn baby in Malda district hospital would be sent to the director of health services for necessary action, health department officials said today. The Malda CMOH, Dr Radha Raman Banik, had to issue a a show cause to three doctors, three nurses and two Group D staffers following protest by the people, political parties and intervention of the district magistrate. On 1 February relatives had found that the newborn baby, wrongly pronounced dead, was alive and they lodged a complaint against the incident. The baby was finally declared dead about 10.40 am on 2 February. The CMOH said: “We received the doctors’ reply. We did not open the sealed envelopes. The replies would be forwarded.” SNS
