Three killed, one murdered in Gazole police station area

MALDA, 12 JUNE: Three persons have died in separate incidents, and one man is thought to have been murdered under Gazole police station area over the last few days. Mazed Ansari (10) was run over by a lorry on the state highway at Syedpur today under Gazole police station. People blocked the road for more than one-and-a-half hours and demanded arrest of the driver.

Gazole police station recovered two bodies from different places today. One has been identified as Amala Sarkar (26), a resident of Barkona village, who had been missing since Wednesday. Police also recovered the body of a 50-year-old woman, Naku Mandal, who appears to have committed suicide at her home located at Ghansahar village.

Gazole police station yesterday started a murder case after Chandra Pramanik died in hospital. Chadra Pramanik, husband of a former Trinamul Congress gram panchayat member, organised a meeting on Wednesday on the issue of an illicit relationship between a married man and woman and took a fine of Rs 9,051 from both members of the couple. Pramanik then donated Rs 8,051 to a local temple and arranged a party on that night. Pramanik did not return home that night. Locals found him unconscious on Thursday morning and he died in a local hospital. Police detained Mr Bishakha Roy (35) and Mr Gouranga Roy (Bishakha's friend), his father and sixty other villagers, for interrogation. Gazole police arrested Sanjay Sarkar for involvement in the case, and seized one pipe gun and three cartridges from his possession. ;SNS
