2 killed in clash over control of local market

MALDA, Jan. 7: Two persons died in a clash between two groups of rowdies over the control of a local market at Jadupur under the Kaliachak police station area this morning. The two groups exchanged bombs and bullets this morning, in which a person named Rafiqul Sheikh (25) was killed by bomb splinters. In retaliation, the victim's brother and friends killed Ajad Momin (30) belonging to the other group. Five persons have been detained for interrogation, the Malda SP, Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhayay, said. A large contingent of police from various police stations went to the spot to recover the bodies and to bring the situation under control. According to the police, tension broke out following the shifting of the local market last evening. Yesterday, the haat (market) was organised at Khotta-para, but another group wanted to shift it to Sukdebpur village.
