L F councillors to expose internal strife

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Jan 1: The LF councillors backed by CPI-M leaders, have planned to bring out the internal squabbling among the 14 non-Left councillors, after extending cooperation to the Congress-led English Bazaar municipality. The Opposition leader of the civic body and CPI-M zonal committee member, Mr DN Chaki said: “We have extended our support to the Congress chairman, in order to place the revised budget in the interest of the people. But it does not mean that we would extend our support for a long time. We will launch an agitation after taking a decision. Our party would analyse the performance of the present board, deal with corruption charges and the internal squabbling among 14 councillors before the people's court.” It may be noted that when the Congress-led board, under the leadership of Mr. Narendranath Tiwri, was facing problems to place the revised budget due to the non-cooperation of the seven rebel councillors yesterday, all the 11 Left councillors extended their cooperation to table the revised budget for official approval. Taking advantage of the present crisis, the LF councillors, who had boycotted the last two board meetings and indirectly supported the boycott programme called by the rebel councillors belonging to the Congress and the Trinamul Congress, have now suddenly decided to attend the meeting following the instruction of the top CPIM district leaders.Today, going through the media report, about the present situation of the English Bazaar municipality, the people are criticising the factional feud of the Congress and the Trinamul , when the Congress chairman has expressed his happiness over the role of the LF councillors for their cooperation. “I had thanked the LF councillors because they came forward in the interest of the people of English Bazaar, when our seven rebel councillors decided to stay off the meeting”, said Mr. Narendranath Tiwari.
