PWD to demolish school for road

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Jan. 3: Finally the PWD will demolish the Primary School building located at Baluchar in English Bazaar town in order to build an approach road for the construction of bridge over the Mahananda river, the Malda additional district magistrate said today. Though the structure of the so called bridge was completed a year ago, the Malda PWD could not finish the construction of the bridge due to the the existence of the school. It was an obstruction in the way of constructing connecting roads. The additional district magistrate, Mr PC Shit, said: “The students of the primary school will come to the Hindi High School which is quite close to its earlier location in the morning.” The students of the primary school will attend the Hindi High School in the morning from the next week, till the school building at a new location is completed, Mr Shit added. According to Mr Shit, the administration has arranged for an alternative land, close to the Indoor stadium on the Malda district sports association ground for the construction of the school. The construction work of the school building would be start next week. The administration had to face technical difficulties to build an approach road for the bridge, connecting English Bazaar town in the congested slum area with a narrow road built for the purpose of mitigating flood in the district town. Still the administration is facing resistance to use two alternative roads for the one-way traffic system. The Malda Ramkrishna Mission has objected to use the road, which would lie in front of its two schools and the girls’ high school for the safety of the students. The bridge will connect Sahapur area in the Old Malda block with the English Bazaar town. The local political leaders have a plan to include some areas of Old Malda under the English Bazaar Municipality in the future after inauguration of the bridge. “Let us start the construction of the approach road. We will discuss the matter with the Malda RKM latter,” Mr Shit said.
