Health project units to come under one roof

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Jan. 2: In a bid to revamp the Malda health administration, the district authorities have decided to set up a district health administrative directorate. The building of the old hospital would be restructured to accommodate all the units of various health projects. The chief medical officer of Health (CMOH), Dr RR Banik said: “We have planned to build a four storied building so that we can accommodate all the units.” The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1.86 crore, the approval of which has been sanctioned by the state. Mr Banik said that work would start within a month and would take one year for completion. Presently the office of the CMOH is being run at the campus of the district hospital, with other units functioning from different parts of the town. “To get hold of sprays for killing mosquitoes, we have to go to the malaria unit located in CMOH-I. It is 2 km away from my office. Block health officials who visit me suffer as a result of this. The new directorate would bring all the units of the programme officers under one roof,” Dr Banik said.
