Malda Cong's figurative committees

Statesman News Service
MALDA, April.17: The death of ABA Ghani Khan Choudhury has apparently exposed the real face of the Congress in Malda. Since then, the party has almost been divided into three groups, a leadership crisis has struck it and it is not known who will have the last word now that Khan Choudhury is no more. A group, which was close to Khan Choudhury, has raised the suggestion of “joint leadership”. The party has been facing a crisis after the death of their leader. Senior Congress leaders said now the party has three groups ~ JCC (Jumping Congress Committee), PCC (Photo Congress Committee) and the original one, MCC (Malda Congress Committee). They said the JCC comprised those who recently jumped into the Congress. The PCC has young leaders who always try to speak out to the media to have their photographs published in the next day’s newspapers. It was also reported that the followers of the Raiganj MP, Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, are also in favour of a joint leadership. But the critics of Mr Das Munshi said: “Priyada did a lot for Barkatda when he fell ill. And he had arranged every thing from Malda to Kolkata. There is no need to form any joint leadership now because we have a district committee led by Mrs Rubi Noor, Barkatda’s sister. Congress workers should be respectful to her and accept this committee because it was formed by Barkatda,” said the Congress sabhadhipati, Mr Goutam Chakraborty. But the followers of the late MP are not interested in joint leadership now. They are not even ready to consult Mr. AH Khan Choudhury, Ghani Khan Choudhury’s brother. At present, the Malda Congress wants to cash in on sympathy votes after Khan Choudhury’s death in the Assembly election but they are not ready to allow Mr KN Choudhury to fight as a Congress candidate from English Bazaar.Though it was learnt that a Congress ticket will not be allotted to Mr Choudhury, but under conditions of anonymity a senior Congress leader said: “ Rubidi will work according to her brother’s wishes.”Mrs Noor is still at home and trying to recover from the shock of the great leader. A group of Congress leaders said the Congress in Malda was trying to retain five seats and regain two other seats ~ Old Malda and Manikchak. #
