Trinamul , BJP yet to name candidate for English Bazaar

MALDA, April 2.- — Though the BJP in Malda is trying hard to nominate its candidate in English Bazaar, the Trinamul Congress is still in search of a suitable candidate for this seat after refusal of the name of its proposed candidate. Though the district BJP leadership is saying that dialogue is on in the state level, the present leadership of Trinamul Congress has failed to finalise the name of its candidate in English Bazaar. The former district president of Trinamul Congress, Mr KN Chowdhury, has joined the Congress and managed a Congress ticket for English Bazaar Assembly segment. After this development, the Trinamul camp has been divided but the opponent group of the party still could not finalise the name of candidate. Three names, including that of a former Congress MLA, are doing the rounds. A large group of Trinamul has decided to support its former leader, Mr KN Chowdhury, and decided to campaign for Mr Chowdhury, but on the other hand the opponent group, under the leadership of Mr Dulal Sarkar, is trying to defeat the Congess candidate in English Bazaar. A senior BJP leader said: “For nothing, the Trinamul is trying to nominate its candidate ignoring the BJP here where the BJP has a commendable number of votes in English Bazaar since 60s.” “We have to concentrate in Habibpur segment where the state BJP has nominated its candidate but we don’t know what will be the fate of the Harishchandrapur assembly segment,” said Mr Asim Chakraborty, another district leader of the BJP.BJP leaders also said that this year they were not in position to violate the official alliance between the two parties in the state level. — SNS
