7 killed , 35 injured as NBSTC bus hits truck

MALDA, April 13: At least seven passengers including three women were killed and 35 others injured when a North Bengal State Transport Corporation’s bus collided with a truck at Ratanpur in Sagardighi police station in Murshidabad this afternoon. The superintendent of police, Murshidabad, Mr B Gupta said the ill-fated bus was hit by another bus immediately after the collision with the truck on the NH 34, which made the situation critical. Eyewitness said two NBSTC buses were racing with each other on the NH-34. The Rampurhat bound bus had to press brake when a heavily loaded truck came in front of it this made the bus at behind loose control and collide with the Rampurhat bus.About thirty injured passengers including women and children were admitted to Behrampore new general hospital. Five others were admitted to Sagardighi rural hospital. “Six persons including two women were killed at the spot. “We do not have confirmation of any other deaths till now. Death toll may go up”, said the superintendent of police. Unconfirmed reports said two others died on their way to hospital in Behrampore. Local residents carried out rescue operation immediately after the accident.
