Ghani aide dropped

MALDA, April 21: Mr Goutam Chakraborty, a senior Congress leader and Sabhadhipati of Malda Zilla Parishad, who was a trusted man in ABA Ghani Khan's family, has been dropped from the candidature list for Zilla Parishad polls finalised by the district president of Malda Congress Mrs Rubi Noor, sister of Ghani Khan. Mr PR Das Munshi, the Union minister for information and broadcasting, failed to get a ticket for Mr Goutam Chakraborty after a dialogue over phone with the district president Mrs. Noor over the issue. The Congress workers and leaders other than the district committee want to know the cause of present ‘bitter relation’ with the Malda MP Mr. AH Khan Choudhury, brother of Ghani Khan and the district president. Some Congress ZP members had told heirs of Ghani Khan about irregularities and violations of instructions to run the Malda zilla parishad in last five years. Not only Mr. Chakraborty but also 11 other Congress members including the saha sabhadhipati have been dropped from the candidature lists for zilla parishad polls. n SNS
