Malda Cong leaves out ZP members for panchayat election

MALDA, April. 18: The Congress leadership in Malda has decided to leave out all elected Zilla Parishad members including the sabhadhipati and saha- sabhadhipati from the forthcoming panchayat polls. The fate of the sabhadhipati Mr Goutam Chakraborty and three other ZP members is uncertain. Mr Mostaque Alam, the former MLA from Harischandrapur, wants to contest this year. He is the general secretary of the Malda Congress district committee. The West Bengal PCC chief Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munshi is looking into the matter of Mr Goutam Chakraborty so that he can contest from Harishchandrapur area, which is under the minister's parliamentary constituency. Mr Das Munshi could come to Malda soon to sort out the problem. It is learnt that the PCC chief has appointed a representative here who will give party symbol to contesting candidates for panchayat polls, particularly for the ZP, in five blocks in his parliamentary constituency.Besides, the district Congress president Mrs Rubi Noor would also allot party symbol in the southern part of the district. The frustrated saha sabhadhipati, Mrs Gul Roshan had approached the CPI-M for a ticket to contest in the panchayat polls but was refused. She finally decided to contest in favour of the Trinamul Congress. The party has decided not to re-nominate ZP members who were inactive in the past five years and have allegations against themselves on various matters, the Congress leadership, said.
