MALDA, 22 APRIL: The Malda SP, Mr Bhuban Mandal, has asked the district Intelligence branch to submit a fresh list of surrendered KLO activists to prepare a rehabilitation plan for them.
It is learnt three surrendered KLO activists have submitted applications to the Malda administration demanding rehabilitation. The surrendered activists yesterday urged the Malda district magistrate, Mr Sridhar Ghosh, to absorb them as home guards in the district.
Mr Mandal today said the he has sought permission from his higher authorities to appoint the former militants as home guards in the district. “I have urged the IG traffic and the state civil defence minister, Mr Srikumar Mukherjee to engage the surrendered KLO activities as permanent home guards in the police. We are awaiting their permission”, the SP said.
According to the SP, English Bazaar town requires at least an additional 50 traffic home guards to regulate traffic. The SP, however, did not divulge the contents of the discussion he had with the chief minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on the rehabilitation issue. SNS
