Missing bullet mystery: Cops to be punished

Statesman News Service
MALDA, July 10: Police authorities in Malda have decided to take action against three policemen in connection with the 50 missing bullets from a police camp at Laxmighaat village. The bullets were detected missing since 7 July and are yet to be traced back much to the embarrassment and worry of the police administration.Seven policemen had been posted in the camp, which had been set up at Laxmighhat to diffuse tension over mango harvesting rights in the area."The inquiry report has been prepared and we will take departmental action against at least three policemen tomorrow," said the Malda superintendent of police Mr DK Mondal. According to him, of the seven policemen posted at the camp, two had come to Malda town to receive salary on the day the bullets went missing. Three policemen were on duty out side the camp. Only two policemen were at the camp when the incident took place. The Malda SP suspects that some local people could also be involved in the incident. During the probe, police officials have learnt that some of the policemen posted at the camp had befriended some locals and those people may have abused the gesture by stealing the bullets, the Superintendent of Police added.
