One arrested , fake notes seized

MALDA, July 16: Acting on a tip-off, the Malda police arrested one Ufal Mondal and seized 197 fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination from the Permanent Township area, near Farakka under Baishnabnagar police station last evening. The Malda SP, Mr DK Mondal said that Ufal was produced in Malda court today. The court has allowed the police to interrogate him for more information about fake currency rackets operational along the Bangladesh border. The SP claimed that Ufal has confessed that he was hired by one Rajesh Basak to do the job against payments. “Ufal received the fake currency notes from Rajesh Basak at Golapganj, a village close to Bangladesh border under Kaliachak police station with an instruction to hand him the notes back at Farakka. We are looking for Rajesh Basak,” the SP, said claiming the police were sure that Rajesh had collected the fake notes from racketeers in Bangladesh.
