Erosion hits train services

MALDA, Oct. 9: Train services to and from north Bengal were disrupted after a long stretch of railway track was affected by erosion at Bazarsha near Katowa in Burdwan district this morning.The railway authorities have cancelled two trains which originate from Malda and North Dinajpur. The 3145 Up and 3145 Dn Radhikapur passenger train and 219 Up and 220 Dn Howrah passenger trains from Malda town station have been cancelled. Eastern Railway authorities said that the 5959 Up and 5960 Dn Kamrup Express, 3141 Up and 3142 Dn Teesta Torsa Express and 3163 Up and 3164 Dn Hate Bazaare Express have been diverted for the day. These trains will run via Rampurhat to Burdwan and Bandel. Similarly, the 2510 Guwahati-Bangalore Express will run on the same route via Rampurhat.The timings of two trains ~ Up Hate Bazaare and Up Jansatabdi Express ~ have been rescheduled. The departure time of these two trains are 1.30 a.m. and 3.15 pm, respectively. The Down Janshatabdi Express was detained midway and diverted later. Officials from Katowa under Howrah railway division have started restoration work.
