Ration dealer to pay compensation


MALDA, Oct. 30:-Abdul Khaleque, a ration dealer at Ranghat village under the Chanchal police station, agreed to pay compensation. The decision was taken at a conciliatory meeting organised yesterday evening. The dealer said that he would pay Rs 2 lakh for the maintenance of a local mosque and a temple. The villagers were deprived of food grains for a long time, due to alleged malpractice in his ration shop. Martuza Ali, a local CPI-(M) member of Dhangara gram panchayat organised the meeting where a police officer was present. The Malda SP, Mr DK Mondal said: “ I do not have information regarding the matter. I will look into it. The police have been instructed to inquire into any untoward incident, following public outrage."Sources said that Abdul Khaleque is very close to the local CPI-(M) party members. n SNS
