Intellectuals raise a voice against Nandigram issue

MALDA, Nov. 16: Malda Shilpi Sanskritik Kormi Buddhijibi Manch today took out a rally in protest this afternoon against the relentless violence in Nandigram in English Bazaar town. In a statement, the convenor of local intellectuals’ platform Mr Maheshwar Bhattacharya criticised the role of armed CPI-M forces in capturing Nandigram which killed several innocent people. More than 200 people took part in the rally today. They condemned the the role of the state and its administration and police led by chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. A few days back some of the local artists organised an art exhibition to protest against police action for torturing artists, poets, writers and actors in front of Nandan. To counter the voices against the government on Nandigram issue, Malda CPI-M started preparation to take out a rally and a meeting in English Bazaar town on 19 November, party sources said. The party leaders have already started circulating invitation to reputed persons here.
