Statesman News Service
MALDA, Nov. 4: A quarrel between the railway ticket booking clerk and the passengers is a common sight at Malda station. This is because when commuters ask them to book tickets for Garib Rath they point out that “there is no such service” eventhough it is present according to the railway timetable. It may be noted that in February after railway budget it was decided that the the train will travel from Guwahati to Kolkata via Malda. On the basis of this announcement the authorities decided to introduce the train. It was even printed in the timetable in ~ “trains at a glance” ~ in July. But nobody knows about the train. According to the schedule the Garib Rath is to arrive in Malda town station at 8.10 a.m. and start for Kolkata at 8.20 a.m. It is convenient for the passengers for Farakka, Ajimganj, Katwa, Bandel wish to avail the train from Malda.Interestingly, the local Congress councillor of Malda town station and civic body chief Mr Nandu Tiwari came to know the matter from local reporters. The English Bazaar Congress MLA Mr KN Choudhury said that he would draw the attention of Mr PR Das Munshi, Information and Broadcasting minister so that the service can be started. Malda railway officials said: “They do not have any government order for the train.” Malda traders’ body has decided to write a letter to the railway minister and other political leaders so that the train can be started soon.
