Malda traders to launch movement

MALDA, Nov 15: Malda traders' body has planned to launch another movement against massive power cut in the industrial growth centre at Narayanpur.The traders' body is concerned about their industrialist friends who are suffering losses due to massive power cut at Narayanpur in Old Malda, according to the president of the Malda Merchants' Chamber of Commerce Mr Debabrata Basu.Though the MMCC has wanted to know the position of Narayanpur in the new map for load shedding on the basis of 'loss concept', the divisional manager Malda electricity distribution department Mr A K Ghosh did not respond to MMCC's letter written twice.The body wanted to make sure the present status of the district industrial growth centre for providing uninterrupted power supply before launching movement against the state electricity distribution company." We are also planning to launch movement claiming rebate for the industrial units at Narayanpur for interrupted power supply based on the recent tariff published by the regulatory commission", said Mr. Ujjal Saha, a senior member of the MMCC.Yesterday there was no power cut in Malda town. But today the whole English Bazaar town (belongs to category II on the basis of loss concept and revenue earning map) was out of gear over two hours power cut from 9.26 am to 11.23 am."I do not know anything about the programme of load shedding. Yesterday evening, I 'expected' that there would be power cut but there was no power cut", said Mr Ghosh."The decision to cut down power is planned by central body in the state level. They e-mail instruction to us when they face crisis or heavy crisis", he said.A few months back when the duration of power cut was for one hour, but now duration of power cut is nearly two hours in English Bazaar town. The town sometimes faces power cut thrice a day including night.On the other hand, the duration of the load shedding in some areas belong to category I like Old Malda, Gazole and Kaliachak is more than two to three hours.
