District asked to take up milk union disposal issue

MALDA, 7 JAN: The animal resources development minister Mr Narayan Biswas today asked the district officials to dispose of the legal matters of Gour Milk union to form another milk union here.

Mr Biswas was reviewing the progress of the ARD department in Malda today. Gour Milk union was set up in the 1980s but the union could not run here due to several reasons. In September last year, the ARD minister, Mr Biswas told officials that another milk union could be formed here after disposing of legal matters of the old milk union that is in liquidation.

The district magistrate Mr Sridhar Ghosh said: “We need to ask the liquidator appointed for disposal of legal matters of Gour Milk union as to why he is delaying the process of disposing the matter of liquidation”, he asked.

The ARD department had reported the minister by sending a proposal to form a new milk union for Malda, after studying the prospects of the dairy industry here. But the project was yet to take off.

During the meeting, the minister alerted the ARD officials and asked to keep vigilance on bird’s death following the incidents of Bird Flu that recurred in Malda district last year.

Speaking to the reporters here today, Mr Biswas said: “Owing to lack of awareness among people, they do not have interest to rear high breed animals in rural belt”.

The department has planned to increase population of domestic animals to keep on supplying chicken, goat and other animals. ; SNS
