Malda disburses funds to set up 249 Anganwadi centres

MALDA, 1 JAN: The district administration has disbursed the allotted funds to the selected blocks for the construction of 249 anganwadi centres in minority concentrated area for implementing multi-sectoral development programme.

The minority affairs department had allotted Rs 21 crore for the construction of at least 700 anganwadi centres at minority concentrated areas in Malda district. Out of the total allotted funds, the district had received Rs 10.5 crore for this purpose.

The district has released funds more than Rs 7 crore to the block development officials, following the proposals received from the child development project officers (CDPO) under the integrated child development scheme (ICDS).

At least Rs 3 lakh was allotted for the construction of each anganwadi centre.

“Funds will be released for the construction of the angnwadi centre following the proposals from the block level”, said Mr Indrajit Paul, the additional district magistrate (development).

The district administration has been facing problem to get at least one decimal land for the construction of an anganwadi centre in the rural belt.

In September, 2009 the district magistrate Mr Sridhar Ghosh had asked the block development officers and the panchayat officials to approach the people of the district so that they offer at least one decimal of their possessed land .

The district officials are also getting information that though there are some people who want to offer their land for the purpose, they are demanding job of a family member in the ICDS centre in return.

The district officials are in dilemma to accept such proposals from the locals for implementing the programme here.
