Three arrested for hijacking iron rod laden truck

MALDA, 7 MARCH: Malda police yesterday arrested three persons on charges of hijacking a truck from the national Highway.
Police also recovered the hijacked lorry from Itahar area in North Dinajpur and recovered stolen iron rods from a village which falls under Ratua police station.
Three days ago an iron rod laden lorry, which was coming from a sought Bengal district, was hijacked from the border area between Kaliachak and English Bazaar police stations. The hijackers beat up the driver and his assistant and forced them out of the lorry.
The driver and his assistant had lodged a complaint with the English bazaar police station.
The Malda police super, Mr Bhuban Mandal, claimed that within 48 hours police had been able to detect the gang of hijackers and recover the stolen materials, including tracing of the lorry.
“Three persons were arrested from areas under different police stations. A group of goons were operating a highway crime racket which included hijacking of vehicles from Kaliachak police station area”, said Mr Bhuban Mandal.
Last year, a gang of criminals of Narayanpur under Kaliachak police station had hijacked iron road laden lorry from NH 34 under Malda police station. Police had been able to recover the stolen iron rods partly.
