Rains damage mango

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Feb. 1: After the depletion in poultry, the state now stands to lose heavily on the mango front. Unseasonal rain along with a weak sun and severe cold the past few days, has taken toll of mango flowering in Malda. The elements have wasted at least 10 per cent of the early mango variety. The Malda mango development officials fear that the continuing unfavourable conditions would affect the remaining crop as well. “The rain would help vegetative growth but stunt production. The exact situation can be assessed after weather conditions improve,” said Mr S N Khara, mango development officer.
