SBI plans to adopt girl children

MALDA, Feb. 13:- The State Bank of India (SBI) has planned to adopt meritorious girl chidren who are either orphans or physically challenged. Each of its branches will adopt two such girls and extend financial help to provide them with a fresh lease of life. "The SBI has targeted to adopt at least 20,000 such girl children in the country. A total of 700 branches in West Bengal will adopt at least 1400 girls." Mr B Halder, regional manager, SBI said.Mr Halder had tabled this proposal at the routine district consultative committee meeting convened by the Malda district administration on 31 January and requested district officials to supply names and addresses of such girls for adoption.Ms Arunima De, sub-divisional officer, Malda selected four such girls from poor families of this district and proposed adoption to Mr Halder in Malda yesterday.Mr Halder said that he would ask the respective branch managers to contact the families for necessary steps to adopt them.There are 35 SBI branches in Malda and it has planned to adopt at least 70 girls.
