MALDA, Feb. 27: Tension prevails in Baidyapur village under Habibpur police station in Malda district after three families received anonymous letters demanding extortion in the past few days. However, the police are treating the matter with seriousness since Kamtapur Liberal Organisation (KLO) activists are known to have inhabited the area in the past. The sender has sought Rs 30,000 from each of the recipients. The recipients are threatened with dire consequences in the letter if they fail to dole out the money.According to police the recipients, Jamini Barman, Chitanya Das and Biru Ray, are poor people. “They ha-ve been asked to send the money to a particular place in a black bag with red ribbon. We are investigating the matter. We are not eliminating any possibility, including involvement of the militant organisations at this juncture,” Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhyay, SP, Malda today said.
