Verification starts for development of N H 34

MALDA, Feb 6: Officials of the national highway authority of India (NHAI) and the district land acquisition department have jointly started land verification to prepare proposal for acquisition notification for the development of national highway-34 and the construction of bypass roads. Yesterday NHAI officials, including the project director of this zone and the additional district magistrate (general) held a meeting and discussed the preparation of land proposals to be acquired in this district. The Malda land acquisition officials are searching old maps and blueprints to locate the area officially and to mark those according to moujas.The additional district magistrate (general), Mr PC Shit, said that the process has started and it would be completed within 15 days.Based on the proposal of the NHAI, the Malda land acquisition officials would authenticate the location of areas and inform the former for the publication of notice. After the completion of survey conducted by consultancy firms appointed by NHAI, the authorities have decided to build bypass roads where the present NH-34 is located. In Malda, two places have been selected for the construction of bypass roads. NHAI has planned to avoid congested areas like Kalichak after Farakka and the English Bazaar town in the Malda district headquarters.More than a 17 km by pass road would be built under the new NH-34 development project. After receiving authentication from the Malda land acquisition department, NHAI would publish notification under NH Act 1956, the administrative officials said.
