170 crude bombs recovered

MALDA, 4 OCT: At least 170 crude bombs supposedly accumulated by a group of criminals were recovered at Narayapur Primary School under Kaliachak police station here today.
This has come close on the heels of such recovery of improvised explosives from these areas over the past couple of days.
These were recovered in course of police raids as a turf battle always continued here between two groups of criminals allegedly backed by the CPI-M and the Congress.
According to police officials, the spell of clashes is a sequel to a major one a month back, which occurred over the issue of illegal trade to Bangladesh.
The inspector general of police, north Bengal Mr KL Tamta visited the village yesterday and found that most of the male members had left their homes in five villages including Majampur and Narayanpur.
In an all-party meeting held on Thursday, the district administration had proposed to constitute a committee of senior citizens in Kaliachak, the objective being an appeal to the criminals to surrender arms and assist the administration to restore peace in the strife-scarred areas.
Yet, the senior citizens have not evinced much interest in involving themselves in the peace committee.
“Restoration of peace is a paramount need as the peace loving villagers are being caught in the cross fire involving two criminal groups,” said the district magistrate, Mr Sridhar Ghosh.
“Police are leaving no stone unturned to restore normalcy in the area,” said Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhayay, the district superintendent of police. ;SNS
