Police arrests 10 to maintain peace in Malda

MALDA, 2 OCT: Ten people were arrested under Section 107 CrPC apprehending breach of peace and also to maintain tranquility of an area under the Malda police last night. However, the Malda sub-divisional officer Mr Prakash Pal today granted them bail.It may be noted that communal tension was brewing since Durga Puja between the two communities over the issue of burning fire crackers and eve teasing. A group of people living in Bachamari (Hindu belt) and Mirzapur (Muslim belt) clashed each others. The situation was beyond control yesterday afternoon. To draw the attention of the administration, the local Congress leaders blocked the highway yesterday evening and demanded arrest of the culprits to maintain peace in the area. Huge forces were deployed in the area and detained many persons to curb the communal tension when the two groups were preparing to attack each other last night. Locals including political leaders in presence of police held a meeting this morning here to bring the situation under control. The sub-divisional officer Mr. Prakash Pal said the situation is now under control. Police have been asked to keep a close eye on the situation. ;SNS
