Leaders work to defuse Cong feud

MALDA, June 5: In order to reduce misunderstanding among Congress councilors and leaders in Malda, West Bengal PCC leaders are looking into the feuding in English Bazaar Municipality. The Congress MLA in English Bazaar, Mr KN Choudhury, had said the Congress-led EBM board was becoming "bankrupt" and lodged a complaint with the directorate of local bodies against the chairman Mr N Tiwari. Mr Choudhury had said the public service system of the board had deteriorated and the board's expenditures were higher than its income. On the basis of the complaint, DLB officials came to EBM on 27 May and conducted an inspection into various points. After being humiliated, the chairman of the EBM Mr N Tiwari lodged complaints against the English Bazaar MLA with the senior party leaders. Sources said Mr N Tiwari went to the state PCC office in Kolkata yesterday and lodged a complaint against the MLA. The PCC leaders yesterday also discussed the matter with Mr Choudhury yesterday and tried to minimise the misunderstanding between them. Following complaints lodged by the MLA, the DLB officials had asked the chairman of the EBM about the tender process, system of labourers’ engagement for conservancy department, present pattern of staff and short fall, updated audit report, budget and records of monthly meetings. The EBM chairman is waiting for the inspection report prepared by the DLB officials and plans to show it to the media if it goes in favour of him.
