MALDA, June 15: In order to solve marketing problems of various products made by several self help groups ( SHG) the district administrative officials set up a retail counter at the Malda district magistrate's office. Mr Sailen Sarkar, minister for environment and the state parliamentary affairs minister, inaugurated the counter, naming it 'Sayansiddha', last evening. Members of Amriti Panchabati Mahila Sangha, a SHG, located in English Bazaar have been given the responsibility to run the counter. Products from various SHG will be displayed here for sale to boost other SHG's in this district. Saris, processed food items, handicrafts made of bamboo for interior decoration and other domestic items like spices and pulses will be available here. In Malda, a total of 10,056 SHGs led by women were formed in 2007-08.The district magistrate Mr. C R Das took the initiative to set up a retail counter for the products of SHG to utilize a vacant place at the main entrance of his office. The outgoing sabhadhipati of Malda zilla parishad Mr. Goutam Chakraborty, Malda S P Mr. Satyajit Bandyopadhayay, other top district officials and MLAs were present at this inauguration programme and all of them purchased items from this counter to encourage the women members of the SHG.
