Trinamul men demand arrest of leader's attackers

MALDA, June 12: Trinamul workers today blocked national highway 34 and submitted a deputation to the Malda police super demanding immediate arrest of three criminals who had attempted to kill the district Trinamul president Mr Dulal Sarkar last night. The three men reached Mr Sarkar's house at Mahanandapally around 10.30 p.m. last night. As Mr Sarkar stepped out of his house to meet them, the men fired bullets at him. Mr Sarkar also a councillor of the English Bazaar Municipality, was taken to the Malda district hospital with bullet injuries. The doctors said that he is out of danger. Malda SP Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhayay reached the Malda district hospital soon and recorded Mr Sarkar's statement. No one was arrested so far. Interestingly, neither the Trinamul Congress nor the Congress leaders spoke about the motive behind the attack. Mr N Tiwari, the chairman of the English Bazaar Municipality said: “It was nothing political. It could be a personal or a business attack”. Mr Bandyaopadhyay, told reporters that investigations were on.
