One held for Cong leader's murder

MALDA, June 13: Police today arrested Mohd Akhtar on charges of murdering Biswanath Guho, a Congress leader and the vice chairman of English Bazaar municipality. Akhtar, who was working as Guho's driver, has been remanded in police custody for three days for further interrogation, the Malda SP said. Four more persons related to Akhtar, have been detained. They would be interrogated to gather clues about Akhtar's whereabouts. According to the Malda SP, Akhtar confessed that he killed Guho with ‘reactive force’ when he was threatened by Guho. Guho was smashed to death with a brick from the back. He was murdered close to his residence. Guho brought two chairs for him and his driver to sit there last late night after attending a musical programme. “Primary investigation revealed that motive behind the murder was a family problem where Akhtar was not above suspicion”, said Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhayay, the Malda SP. “We need to investigate more to find out other motives behind the murder before we draw a definite conclusion whether”, he added. Police examined Lakshmi Guho, widow of Guho, for a long time to know about relation with Akhtar. After the death of the INTUC district president, Biswanath Guho, angry locals blamed his wife and pointed out her illicit relation with Akhtar. According to police, after killing Guho the driver informed his wife about his death. Guho, controversial and popular INTUC leader, was elected thrice as the councillor of English Bazaar Municipality.
