Statesman News ServiceMALDA, June 3: Dhananjay Sarkar, an undertrial married his pregnant fiancé Santana Sarkar, at Malda correctional home today.Dhananjay, resident of Lalbathani under Manikchak police station had refused to marry his fiance when she became pregnant.Following complaints from the victim's family members, local residents urged Dhananjay to marry her. He had turned down the proposal following which Santana lodged an FIR against him at the Manikchak police station in April leading to his arrest. The court rejected his bail plea and he was remanded to judicial custody.He changed his mind after his lawyer Mr Gajendranath Saha appealed to the district judge Mr MM Srivastava for his release with a proposal of marriage. Following the appeal, the district judge asked Dhananjay to marry Santana at the Malda correctional home to get a release order from the court. Dhananjay was lodged in Malda correctional home 38 days ago.Today, Santana and her family members visited the Malda jail where Dhananjay got married. He is still behind bars while his wife Santana has returned home. Dhananjay is expected to be released from jail tomorrow, his lawyer said.
